The November meeting was devoted to flat design and comparing it with skeuomorphic design. The two are often considered opposites, but I would say that that is not quite accurate.
We looked at examples of each design type, in particular in Apple’s mobile OS’es and in Windows 8. We looked at how flat design is implemented by styling choices like eliminating drop shadows and gradients. We then looked at numerous examples of flat design in the wild, including typography and color and in WordPress themes.
I have updated this site with the references that we used. The direct link is Flat Design Resources. The page is also linked from the Resources page (see menu above).
The last reference on that list is an example of a flat design navigation menu with a tile interface. At our next meeting on December 21, we will take this example and style this menu from an unordered list to the end.
